Foreword by Kim Anthony
It is an honour to welcome you to the 20th Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Research Conference, a momentous occasion marking two decades of SARAO’s commitment to advancing research, education, and scientific discovery. This conference has grown into a vital platform for emerging researchers to share knowledge, engage with experts, and contribute to the global scientific landscape.
Through SARAO’s Human Capital Development Programme, we have proudly supported over 1,700 students, empowering the next generation of scientists and engineers in South Africa and beyond. Our impact extends across three key areas:
– Education and Skills Development: By providing scholarships, training, and mentorship opportunities, we have built a strong pipeline of talent that is now shaping the future of radio astronomy and related disciplines.
– Science Products and Research Enterprise: SARAO-supported research has led to groundbreaking scientific outputs, fostering innovation and strengthening South Africa’s position in global astronomy.
– Public Good: Our investments in infrastructure, outreach, and community engagement have extended the benefits of astronomy beyond academia, inspiring young minds and driving socio-economic impact.
As we celebrate 20 years of achievement, I encourage you to take full advantage of this conference—engage in meaningful discussions, challenge perspectives, and build networks that will support your research journey. The work you present here today will contribute to the continued success of our scientific community and the broader impact of radio astronomy.
Congratulations to all participants, and I look forward to witnessing the continued success of your contributions in the years ahead.
