Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning

The maths and science teaching and learning programme at Carnarvon schools include:

• Bursary programme for Grade 8 to 12 learners
• Secondment of qualified and experienced mathematics and science educators
• Summer/winter revision schools
• Wi-Fi connectivity and other ICT infrastructure, including a Cyberlab
• Lego robotics programme
• Undergraduate scholarships to study at local universities

Artisan Training Programmes

Support for youth to train as Artisans to increase employment opportunities

Training centre with electrical training panels, all of which were built by students.

Robotics Schools Programme

NRF-SARAO has been running the Robotics Schools Programme in the Karoo since 2016. The programme aims to develop and inspire an interest in STEM skills in the schools around the development of the MeerKAT Radio Telescope, a precursor to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). The Programme introduces STEM concepts to learners through fun activities using the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics kit.
